Jonah Cox reached on a bunt single in the fifth and scored Rafael Devers to knot the game at 2-2. Four innings later he hit a solo home run to left.
Those were Cox's two RBI on Monday night in Atlanta. The San Francisco Giants beat the Braves 7-3, snapped Atlanta's seven-game winning streak, and finished the season series 5-1 against the NL East leaders, the Associated Press reported. ESPN's scoring plays put the bunt single in the fifth and the homer in the ninth, measured at 379 feet to left.
San Francisco is 57-81. Atlanta is 82-56.
Two different swings, same night
The bunt was small-ball with the game tied in the balance. Devers had walked and Bryce Eldridge had reached; Cox pushed one toward second and beat it out. ESPN's play-by-play credits him with the RBI that made it 2-2.
Atlanta answered in the bottom half on Drake Baldwin's single, but Cox's ninth-inning drive off Raymond Kerr padded a lead the Giants had already taken in a four-run sixth.
ESPN's box lists Cox with a home run and two RBI. The AP mentioned the rookie by name on both the bunt and the solo shot. It was his fourth homer of the season on ESPN's accounting.
The game was a makeup of a June 18 rainout. Anthony Molina, traded from Atlanta to San Francisco at the deadline, started against his former club for the first time this season and earned the win. He went five innings with six hits, three earned runs, no walks, and a career-high six strikeouts, improving to 2-0, the AP said.
