Johnson Dominates on the Mound
Ryan Johnson established early control in a 3-0 victory for the Los Angeles Angels over the Texas Rangers on Saturday. The Angels starter limited the Rangers to a single hit across seven innings, allowing two walks and striking out three batters. His performance was the cornerstone of a shutout effort that kept the Rangers scoreless for the entire game.
Johnson earned the win, improving his record to 3-7. The Angels relied on timely hitting to build their lead, with all three runs scoring on baserunners already on base.
Scoring Sequence Unfolds
The Angels took the lead in the first inning when Mike Trout singled to center field, allowing Randal Grissom to score from first base. This single play extended the Angels' advantage to 1-0. The margin widened in the sixth inning when Ballesteros doubled to center, driving in Trout for the second run.
The final run of the game came in the eighth inning when Grissom singled to right field, scoring Neto. The Rangers never managed to put a runner on base in the bottom half of the first three innings, and their offense remained dormant throughout the contest.
Bullpen Secures the Shutter
After Johnson departed, the Angels bullpen managed the final two frames to protect the lead. Michael Fulmer pitched one inning without allowing a hit, walking one batter and recording no strikeouts. He was followed by Ryan Watson, who retired the side in order over one inning, striking out one batter and allowing no hits or earned runs.
