Dominant Outings Define Close Contest

Tarik Skubal delivered a masterful performance on the mound, striking out 11 batters while pitching seven innings to earn the win. His dominance helped the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome an early deficit to secure a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Dodger Stadium on Saturday.

Skubal allowed three earned runs and five hits, walking just one batter. The left-hander improved his record to 8-7 with the effort. He was supported by a bullpen that held the Pirates scoreless in the final two innings.

Evan Phillips pitched 0.2 innings for his fifth hold, giving up one hit but no runs while striking out two. Jack Dreyer followed with 0.1 inning of perfect relief, recording one strikeout and earning his tenth hold.

Early Lead Slips Away

The Pirates jumped ahead early in the first inning against Skubal. With two outs, Cruz tripled to right field, bringing Valdez and Reynolds home to give Pittsburgh a 2-0 lead. Flores Jr. added another run later in the frame with a groundout that scored Cruz, extending the advantage to 3-0.

Skubal rebounded to keep the Dodgers within striking distance. He navigated through trouble but ultimately could not prevent the Pirates from building an early cushion. The Dodgers’ offense remained quiet until the fourth inning when they began to chip away at the lead.

Late Inning Surge Secures Win

Los Angeles tied the game in the fourth inning. T. Hernández singled to left field, allowing Muncy to score. Thomas followed with a single to left, driving in Tucker to make it 3-2.

The Dodgers took their first lead in the fifth inning when Tucker singled to right field. Betts and Muncy both crossed the plate on the play, turning the deficit into a two-run advantage.

The Pirates’ pitching staff struggled to contain the Dodgers’ momentum. Jared Jones started for Pittsburgh, working four innings and allowing three earned runs while striking out five. Yohan Ramirez took the loss after allowing two earned runs in one inning of work, improving his record to 6-4.

Bullpen Holds Firm

Camilo Doval pitched a scoreless fifth inning for the Pirates, striking out two batters with no walks or hits allowed. Kirby Yates closed out the sixth without allowing a run, recording one hit and striking out none in his outing. Antwone Kelly finished the game with a perfect seventh, retiring the side in order with one strikeout.

The Dodgers’ bullpen maintained their lead for Tanner Scott, who earned his 19th save by pitching a scoreless eighth inning. He allowed no hits or walks while striking out one batter.

Dodger Stadium hosted 53,417 spectators for the contest. The victory improved the Dodgers’ record to 79-51. The Pirates fell to 63-68 on the season.
