Dominant Outings Define Close Contest
Tarik Skubal delivered a masterful performance on the mound, striking out 11 batters while pitching seven innings to earn the win. His dominance helped the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome an early deficit to secure a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Dodger Stadium on Saturday.
Skubal allowed three earned runs and five hits, walking just one batter. The left-hander improved his record to 8-7 with the effort. He was supported by a bullpen that held the Pirates scoreless in the final two innings.
Evan Phillips pitched 0.2 innings for his fifth hold, giving up one hit but no runs while striking out two. Jack Dreyer followed with 0.1 inning of perfect relief, recording one strikeout and earning his tenth hold.
Early Lead Slips Away
The Pirates jumped ahead early in the first inning against Skubal. With two outs, Cruz tripled to right field, bringing Valdez and Reynolds home to give Pittsburgh a 2-0 lead. Flores Jr. added another run later in the frame with a groundout that scored Cruz, extending the advantage to 3-0.
Skubal rebounded to keep the Dodgers within striking distance. He navigated through trouble but ultimately could not prevent the Pirates from building an early cushion. The Dodgers’ offense remained quiet until the fourth inning when they began to chip away at the lead.
Late Inning Surge Secures Win
Los Angeles tied the game in the fourth inning. T. Hernández singled to left field, allowing Muncy to score. Thomas followed with a single to left, driving in Tucker to make it 3-2.
