Betts Caps Massive Sixth Inning
Mookie Betts delivered the decisive blow in a lopsided contest, hitting a three-run home run to center field in the sixth inning. Dodgers Offense Explodes in the Middle Frames
The Dodgers’ offense woke up in the sixth inning, turning a 2-1 lead into a 10-1 advantage. The inning began with a defensive miscue by Padres second baseman Wagner, who allowed Muncy to reach base safely on a fielding error. Muncy advanced to second on another error, and Edman scored on the play to make it 2-1. Edman then tripled to right field, bringing Muncy home for a 3-1 lead.
The inning continued to unravel for San Diego. Aaron Tucker homered to right field, a 398-foot shot that scored Edman to make it 5-1. Rushing followed with a 399-foot home run to right center, pushing the score to 6-1. Freeman scored on a groundout to second, making it 7-1. After Betts’ three-run homer, the Padres managed to score one run in the seventh inning when Tatis Jr. singled to left, driving in Wagner. However, the Dodgers answered in the eighth. Muncy reached on an infield single, scoring Ohtani to make it 11-3. Edman later scored on a groundout, and Tucker’s double in left field drove in two more runs, extending the lead to 14-3. Ward added an insurance run in the ninth with a single to right, scoring Pages for the final 15-3 tally.
