Relievers Take Charge

The Pittsburgh Pirates utilized a deep bullpen to defeat the San Francisco Giants 5-2 on Thursday at PNC Park. The victory improved the Pirates' record to 69-72, while the Giants fell to 58-83. The game featured a strong defensive effort and strategic pitching changes that limited the Giants' offense.

Offensive Sequence

San Francisco struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Cruz walked to set the table, allowing Horwitz to score. Shortly after, Mangum was hit by a pitch, driving in Reynolds for the second run.

The Giants extended their lead in the sixth inning when Mangum sacrificed bunt, scoring Cruz. A fielder's choice by Triolo then brought in Mangum, giving the visitors a 4-0 advantage. Pittsburgh answered in the seventh.

Lee doubled to right field, scoring Cox. Furman followed with a groundout to first, which drove in Hill. In the eighth inning, Triolo hit a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Mangum to score for the final run.

Pitching Performance

Khristian Curtis earned the win, pitching three innings. He allowed one hit and two earned runs while walking three batters and striking out two. The Pirates' bullpen was effective, with Yohan Ramirez and Luke Weaver each recording one hitless inning.

Mason Montgomery closed the game, pitching one inning without allowing a hit or an earned run, while striking out one batter. Blade Tidwell took the loss, pitching five innings and allowing two hits and two earned runs. The Pirates' other relievers, Brandon Eisert and Lake Bachar, also contributed to the scoreless stretch.
