Trent Williams has been honored as a team captain for the seventh time by the San Francisco 49ers, as announced by the team on Monday.

This selection marks a historic achievement, as Williams is the first player in NFL history to be named a captain for at least seven seasons with two different franchises, having previously served in that role for the Washington Redskins (now the Washington Commanders).

The 49ers have retained the same eight captains from the previous year, which includes Williams along with tight end George Kittle, linebacker Fred Warner, quarterback Brock Purdy, defensive lineman Nick Bosa, fullback Kyle Juszczyk, running back Christian McCaffrey, and defensive back Deommodore Lenoir.

Williams, a 12-time Pro Bowler and three-time First Team All-Pro, began his NFL career in 2010 with Washington, where he was captain for seven seasons. His leadership qualities have earned him respect from teammates in both franchises.

The 49ers are set to begin their 2026 NFL season against the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday in Melbourne, Australia, with Williams looking to continue his legacy of excellence on the field.
