Chargers offensive tackle Joe Alt addressed reporters on Monday, expressing his enthusiasm for the team's revamped offense under new coordinator Mike McDaniel. Alt emphasized the enjoyment of utilizing his athleticism in the system, which focuses on speed, physicality, and quick execution at the line of scrimmage.
The 2026 season represents a significant opportunity for Alt, who was limited to six games last season due to a severe high ankle injury that required surgery. Now fully recovered, he has actively participated in preseason games, including recent snaps against the 49ers.
"It felt so good to be able to be in the huddle, do a pregame warm-up, be out there with the team," Alt remarked about his return to live-game action.
Alt's comments also addressed the challenges facing the Chargers' offensive line, particularly following the season-ending ACL injury of veteran Tyler Biadasz. This situation has elevated rookie Jake Slaughter, a second-round pick, to the starting center position. Alt expressed a sense of responsibility to support Biadasz through his recovery, drawing from his own experiences with injury.
"Just being there for him... I sadly understand the situation and am fresh off of that," he stated.
