Monty Rice is no longer a member of the Los Angeles Rams following his release during the team's final roster cuts on August 30, 2026. This decision highlights the reality that past college success does not guarantee a position in the NFL. Despite recording 131 total tackles over 42 games in college, Rice struggled to compete at the professional level.

The Rams made the decision to cut Rice just weeks after he signed with the team on August 13. During the preseason, he participated in all three games, accumulating seven tackles and allowing a passer rating of 64.6. However, his performance was marred by a low Pro Football Focus grade of 52.7, which included missing three tackles and only registering two stops.

These statistics ultimately led to his release as the Rams finalized their roster at 53 players.

Rice's journey in the NFL has been tumultuous, having previously played for the Tennessee Titans, New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots, and Detroit Lions, each time failing to secure a long-term position. His time with the Titans saw him total 128 tackles and five tackles for loss over three seasons, earning first-team All-SEC honors in 2020 while at the University of Georgia.

However, his collegiate achievements have not translated into sustained success in the NFL.

Despite being a second-team All-American in 2020 and known for standout plays during his college career, Rice's inability to maintain consistency has hindered his professional prospects. Head coach Kirby Smart of Georgia emphasized the importance of consistency in the program, a quality Rice has not demonstrated in the NFL.

It is uncertain whether Rice will find a spot on another NFL roster or practice squad, as he has been waived multiple times by different teams. His recent history includes a brief stint with the Lions in September 2025, where he was released shortly after. As the NFL continues to be a competitive environment, Rice's future remains uncertain following his release from the Rams.
