As the Los Angeles Rams prepare for the upcoming season, uncertainty surrounds the status of wide receiver Puka Nacua regarding a potential suspension by the NFL. Although Nacua was not included in recent suspension announcements, the possibility of discipline remains open as he is currently under investigation.
Nacua is involved in a civil case stemming from an incident on New Year's Eve, where he is alleged to have bitten a woman on the shoulder while intoxicated and made an antisemitic remark. His trial for this case has been scheduled for March 2028, complicating the situation further.
While Nacua has acknowledged the bite, he claims it was merely horseplay, leading to a dispute over the context of the incident.
ESPN's Adam Schefter noted that Nacua might not participate in the Rams' season opener against the San Francisco 49ers in Australia, depending on the NFL's findings. The league typically waits for legal proceedings to unfold but may conduct its own investigation, which could involve interviewing witnesses.
Nacua's attorney has raised questions about the evidence, including the authenticity of a photo related to the bite, suggesting that it may not be as clear-cut as it appears. Additionally, while the woman claims Nacua made an antisemitic remark, his lawyer asserts that there are witnesses who can support Nacua's denial of the allegation.
