Evans, a former first-round pick who spent over a decade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, signed a three-year deal worth up to $42.4 million with the 49ers. However, his transition has been marred by injuries, including a quadriceps issue earlier in August and a subsequent groin problem. Recently, he has been officially designated with an adductor injury, complicating his recovery.
Last season was challenging for Evans, as he failed to surpass 1,000 receiving yards for the first time, limited to just eight games due to a serious hamstring injury, a concussion, and a broken clavicle. Despite these setbacks, the 49ers had hoped to see a resurgence from Evans, who had previously ranked among the top wide receivers in the league.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed optimism about Evans returning to practice soon, aiming for him to be ready for the season opener against the Los Angeles Rams. However, general manager John Lynch's recent comments suggest that Evans is expected to return to practice next week, which may not provide sufficient time for him to prepare for the game.
