Visitors to Del Valle and the other East Bay Regional Park District parks could buy a year of parking, fishing, boating or swimming for a flat $45 starting in January under a fee schedule the district's board is set to approve Tuesday.

The 2027 fee schedule is on the consent calendar for the board's 1 p.m. meeting at district headquarters, 2950 Peralta Oaks Court in Oakland, which can also be joined on Zoom. The board's operations committee recommended it unanimously on Sept. 10, and the new fees would take effect Jan. 1.

The new passes

According to the staff report, the district would add four annual passes, each priced at $45:

  • An annual parking pass, per person.
  • An annual fishing pass, which covers the district fishing permit.
  • An annual boating pass for boat launching, which does not include boat inspections.
  • A swim season pass that covers swim access for up to six people a day.

Staff describe the passes as a new offering in line with the Regional Parks Foundation's transition plan. The proposed schedule keeps the $5 daily vehicle parking fee and the $5 daily fishing permit.

What goes up

Reserved group picnic sites would cost $10 more per day for Alameda and Contra Costa County residents and $14 more for non-residents. A 35-person site, for example, would go from $60 to $70 for residents.

Group camping rises more sharply. Developed group sites would be a flat $150 a night, up from $100 to $150. Primitive group sites would climb by $25 to $150 a night depending on size, with the 300-person site going from $200 to $350. Overflow parking at campgrounds would go from $8 to $10 a night.

Thirteen concessionaires also asked for fee changes, including the two watercraft rental operators at Del Valle and the operator of Camp Arroyo. Staff estimate the changes will bring in about $54,000 more next year.

Also on the agenda

The same meeting includes the district's proposed purchase of the former Golden Gate Fields racetrack for $175 million, with $20 million from Measure WW funds and $820,000 for site security, and an option to buy 511 acres of Cakebread Ranch for Round Valley Regional Preserve.

On Friday, Oct. 23, board members tour Del Valle Regional Park starting at 10 a.m., with staff updates on the park's operating agreement, the concession building, drone and boat operations and golden mussel management, followed by a stop at the Livermore airport hangar the district acquired for its helicopter. The public may attend and comment; the district asks people to RSVP by 5 p.m. Tuesday.
