California Reports $76.2 Million in Organized Retail Theft Recoveries

Pleasanton, California — California’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force has recovered more than $76.2 million in stolen goods and arrested more than 5,300 suspects since it was created in 2019, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced July 22.

The California Highway Patrol-led task force reported 4,718 investigations and the recovery of more than 1.6 million items. In 2026 through the announcement, officials counted 329 investigations, 315 CHP arrests and $6.3 million in recovered property.

The governor’s office said June operations included 105 CHP arrests and 2,461 recovered items. The task force works with local law enforcement, retailers and prosecutors across the state.

The statewide task force’s work includes partnerships with local agencies serving communities in the Bay Area and elsewhere in California.
