Bryce Eldridge evened Friday's first inning almost as soon as it began.

In the bottom of the first, after Jonah Cox lined out and Rafael Devers grounded out, Eldridge drove a Kohl Drake pitch 381 feet to right for a solo shot, his 15th of the season per ESPN's scoring. He later doubled home Devers in the third. Neither blow held.

Arizona scored five times in the third, kept adding, and left Oracle Park with a 10-6 victory that dropped San Francisco to 55-80 while the Diamondbacks improved to 72-64.

Eldridge finished 2-for-5 with a run, two RBI, a home run, a double and two strikeouts. ESPN and CBS Sports both list him at .254/.345/.448 after the game, with 15 home runs, 38 RBI and 17 doubles for the season. The Giants totaled five hits and went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position, ESPN's box shows.

How the lead slipped away

Lee singled and stole second in the second, then scored on Hill's sacrifice fly for a brief 2-1 Giants edge. Blade Tidwell could not keep it. Carroll's two-run homer to center, 419 feet on ESPN's measure and his 19th of the year, put Arizona ahead.

Tawa's three-run blast followed; ESPN logged left center at 379 feet, CBS Sports' play-by-play said left. Perdomo and Arenado scored. Devers was hit by a pitch before Eldridge's RBI double to center cut the deficit, but Arizona had already flipped the night.

Tidwell (0-1) lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and six earned runs with four strikeouts and one walk on 100 pitches, 67 of them strikes. His ERA was 4.54. Bivens followed with two innings, five hits and four earned runs.

Gerardo Carrillo worked a scoreless fifth for the win, one inning with no hits, one strikeout and two walks, improving to 3-1 with a 0.55 ERA. Drake, Arizona's starter, went four innings and allowed five earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

The Associated Press recap on CBS Sports noted Arizona's 12 hits, Nootbaar's three of them, and the Diamondbacks moving a half-game behind San Diego for the third NL wild-card berth. Arizona is 9-2 against the Giants this season. Baseball-Reference and CBS Sports confirm the final, the 27,153 attendance, the 3:06 duration and the 7:15 p.m. local night start.

Eldridge's at-bats after the first

After the opening homer, Eldridge's RBI double in the third scored Devers. He flied to deep center against Carrillo in the fifth, struck out swinging against Garcia in the seventh, and struck out swinging against Morillo in the ninth with Devers on first.

Christian Koss's two-run homer in the fourth, his first of the year per the Associated Press and CBS Sports, had pulled San Francisco within 6-5, but the Giants never tied it.

Arizona padded the margin in the sixth on Vargas's two-run single and Carroll's sacrifice fly, added McCann's RBI single in the seventh, and watched Hill's fielder's choice score Lee in the eighth after a walk and errors. San Francisco committed one error; Arizona two. Porter ejected Vitello in the third, and Jim Wolf ejected Logan Webb, who was not pitching, the AP reported.

Braxton Roxby debuted in the ninth and retired the Diamondbacks in order.

CBS Sports' Saturday preview lists Arizona's Merrill Kelly (8-12, 5.35 ERA) for Game 1 of the day-night doubleheader and Mitch Bratt (1-2, 4.54) for Game 2. Eldridge's power night left the Giants still searching for a hit with runners in scoring position as that twin bill arrives.
