No team in baseball lost more time to injuries this year than the San Francisco Giants.
The club piled up 2,379 days on the injured list across 44 placements in 2026, according to Major League Baseball figures reported Tuesday by The Associated Press. That ended a three-year streak in which the Los Angeles Dodgers led the majors; the Dodgers finished second this year at 2,318. Cleveland lost the least time, 470 days.
The Giants' jump was the largest in the sport. San Francisco added 1,630 days to its total from a year earlier, well ahead of the Chicago Cubs, whose increase was 1,080. Leaguewide, injured-list days rose to 47,699 from 44,372 in 2025.
The longest absences
Pitchers accounted for seven of the eight longest Giants stays on the AP's list. Right-handers Randy Rodríguez, Hayden Birdsong and Rowan Wick each logged 187 days. José Buttó was out 179 days, Joel Peguero 160, Jason Foley 109 and left-hander Matt Gage 101. Outfielder Harrison Bader, the lone position player in that group, was sidelined for 140 days.
On the field, San Francisco finished 65-97, never got above .500 and had its best month in July at 12-13, MLB Trade Rumors reported. Only Colorado finished below the Giants in the National League.
Buster Posey, the club's president of baseball operations, has said plainly that the bullpen needs to improve, MLB Trade Rumors noted, and several of the names on the AP list help explain why.
