Pool owners who shop at Leslie's on Santa Rita Road can keep going there for now. The Pleasanton store was not among the 76 locations the pool and spa supply chain put on its closure list when it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy at the end of September, but the company's San Ramon store has already shut its doors.

The Pleasanton Weekly reported Thursday that the Leslie's in Crow Canyon Commons, at 3211 Crow Canyon Place, sat empty that morning, with bare shelves and moving equipment visible through the window. A sign on the door told customers the store was closed and pointed them to a QR code for finding another location.

The company's other Tri-Valley stores, on San Ramon Valley Boulevard in Danville and East Stanley Boulevard in Livermore along with Pleasanton's, remain open, the paper reported. Eight Bay Area stores, including one in Walnut Creek, were on the closure list, which covers stores in 19 states.

A restructuring, not a shutdown

Leslie's filed voluntary petitions Sept. 30 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, where its case is numbered 26-90795. The company says it reached an agreement with a group of its existing lenders that will sharply cut its debt and bring in new capital.

Chief Executive Jason McDonell has said the business will keep operating while the case moves through court. "Leslie's is here to stay," he said in the company's announcement, adding that the restructuring would leave it with a stronger balance sheet and more room to reinvest in its stores and online service.

In a later message posted on the company's website, he said the brand would come out "stronger for you on the other side."

The San Ramon closure also widens a run of empty storefronts at the west end of Crow Canyon Commons, where the Leslie's space sits next to a large vacant retail unit, according to the Weekly.

Court filings and notices in the case are posted by the company's claims agent, Kroll, at restructuring.ra.kroll.com/lesliespool.
