Man wanted on warrants drives off from a hotel lot as officers check his car, then escapes on foot through Val Vista

A Flock camera alert led police to the empty car Friday evening. The search drew CHP air support and a sheriff's K-9 team and a shelter-in-place alert near Val Vista Park; police say they see no ongoing threat.

Pleasanton police are still looking for a man with warrants in and out of California who drove away from officers at a hotel Friday evening, Oct. 23, then ditched the car and ran through the Val Vista neighborhood.

The search began shortly after 5:30 p.m., when the department's Flock camera system flagged a vehicle tied to a wanted man, Lt. Chris Lewellyn told the Pleasanton Weekly. The same car was linked to a case in Campbell in which a driver evaded police, and it carried a 30-day impound notice from that case.

Officers found the car parked and empty in a hotel lot and worked to confirm who it belonged to and where he was staying. Before they finished, the man got in and drove off while officers ordered him to stop, Lewellyn said. He drove through the area around Val Vista Park, left the car and kept going on foot.

Police set up a perimeter around Inglewood Drive and Mason Street. California Highway Patrol air support and an Alameda County Sheriff's Office K-9 team joined the search, and a Nixle alert told people to avoid Val Vista Park and to shelter in place in the neighborhood. Officers did not find him that night.

Police have not released the man's name, and apart from the Campbell evasion case they have not said what the warrants involve. Lewellyn said the man's whereabouts are unknown but the department does not believe he poses an ongoing threat to the community.

The car was impounded as part of the Campbell investigation. Pleasanton police have asked the Alameda County District Attorney's Office to file charges, Lewellyn said, and the investigation is continuing.
