Athletics build the early lead
The Athletics scored first in the fourth inning when McNeil singled to right and Soderstrom scored for a 1-0 lead.
In the fifth, Wilson doubled to left, bringing in Butler and Walton to make it 3-0. Cincinnati answered in the bottom half when De La Cruz singled to left, scoring Rodríguez and McLain, with De La Cruz advancing to second. Stewart followed with a sacrifice fly to right, and De La Cruz scored to tie the game at 3.

Eighth-inning wild pitches decide it
The Athletics moved back in front in the seventh. Bolte scored on an error when Butler was safe at first on a throwing error by shortstop De La Cruz, putting the Athletics ahead 4-3.
Cincinnati tied it in the eighth when De La Cruz scored on a wild pitch by Harris, with Stewart moving to third on the play. Suárez then walked, and Stewart scored on another Harris wild pitch for a 5-4 Cincinnati lead.
