Montero leads Detroit’s shutout
Keider Montero gave Detroit 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out two, as the Tigers beat the Athletics 11-0 on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026, at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, California.
Montero was credited with the win (8-6), and Detroit’s pitching staff held the Athletics to seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. The announced attendance was 8,237.
Detroit builds the lead
Detroit, batting as the away team, went ahead in the top of the first. Torkelson doubled to center, scoring Dingler and Torres for a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers added four more runs in the top of the fourth. Torres singled to center, bringing in Clark and Malgeri and moving McKinstry to third. Valencia then doubled to left, scoring McKinstry and Torres while McGonigle advanced to third, stretching the lead to 6-0.
Gage Jump took the loss (4-7) for the Athletics. He was charged with six earned runs on four hits and six walks in 3.2 innings, with five strikeouts.
Tigers pull away late
Detroit widened the margin in the top of the eighth. Valencia doubled to left, scoring Torres and Dingler and moving McGonigle to third. Torkelson followed in the scoring with a single to center that scored McGonigle and sent Valencia to third.
