Pleasanton-based Veeva Systems says more than 175 emerging biotechnology companies are using its Basics software, an Oct. 7 update on a product line aimed at businesses setting up their technology infrastructure.

The applications cover work from clinical development and regulatory submissions to quality, medical and commercial operations. Veeva says customers can launch the preconfigured software in weeks and add capabilities as their businesses grow.

One example in the announcement is Whitehawk Therapeutics. Its technology operations chief said the company, with fewer than 40 employees, had replaced paper processes without needing its own IT team. Another customer, Structure Therapeutics, described moving regulatory publishing work in-house.

Those accounts are customer testimonials supplied by Veeva, rather than an independent comparison of development speed or cost. The announcement did not establish that using the software improves a medicine’s chance of approval.

For Pleasanton, the update concerns a company headquartered at 4280 Hacienda Drive. It describes adoption across Veeva’s customer base, rather than a local hiring or office-expansion announcement.
