Pleasanton, California — Gas prices in the Oakland area averaged $5.4180 per gallon for regular unleaded on July 16, 2026, according to AAA, up from $5.4070 yesterday. That is down from $5.4240 a week ago and lower than $5.7770 a month ago.

The statewide average in California stands at $5.4060, while the national average is $3.9430. Drivers in the Oakland area are paying above the state average and above the national average.

The Oakland average remains below its AAA recorded high of $6.5480. Regular prices are about 36 cents lower than a month ago. Compared with a year ago, when the metro average was $4.5810, drivers are paying about 84 cents more per gallon.

Diesel in the Oakland area averages $6.5080 per gallon, AAA reported.
