Povich, Alonso carry Orioles past Angels 3-1 at Camden Yards

Povich sets the tone

Cade Povich gave Baltimore six strong innings Tuesday, and Pete Alonso supplied the swing that put the Orioles in front in a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Povich allowed seven hits with one walk and seven strikeouts over 6.0 innings. He did not allow an earned run and earned the win, improving to 2-1. The Orioles held Los Angeles to one run for the game, with three relievers completing the final three innings.

Alonso breaks through

Baltimore did all of its early scoring in the third inning. Alonso singled to center, bringing home Cowser and Franklin, and Narváez advanced to second on the play. The two-run single gave the Orioles a 2-0 lead.

Los Angeles pitcher Grayson Rodriguez kept the game close despite taking the loss. Rodriguez worked 7.0 innings, allowing three hits, two earned runs and one walk while striking out six. He fell to 3-4.

Angels answer, Orioles add on

The Angels cut the deficit in the eighth inning. Grissom doubled to center, scoring Schanuel and making it 2-1.

Baltimore responded in the bottom of the eighth with the game’s only home run. O'Neill homered to left center, a 373-foot drive, pushing the Orioles’ lead to 3-1. Mitch Farris pitched 1.0 inning for Los Angeles and allowed one hit, one earned run and one walk with one strikeout.

For Baltimore, Rico Garcia pitched 1.0 inning, allowing one hit and one walk with one strikeout, and was credited with his 13th hold. Andrew Kittredge allowed two hits and one earned run in 1.0 inning, striking out one, and recorded his seventh hold. Yennier Cano worked 1.0 inning, giving up one hit with no walks and two strikeouts, and earned his second save.

Records

The Orioles finished with three runs, while the Angels scored once. The final score was Baltimore 3, Los Angeles 1.

Attendance was 18,585 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland. The Orioles improved to 55-58, and the Angels fell to 43-70.
