The victory improved Skubal’s record to 6-5 for the season.
The Angels' starting pitcher, Grayson Rodriguez, struggled to contain Detroit’s offense. He lasted four innings, surrendering seven hits and six earned runs. Despite striking out three batters, he could not prevent the Tigers from building a significant early lead.
Rodriguez’s record fell to 3-3 following the loss. Relief pitchers Brent Suter and Jose Fermin combined for five innings, allowing three hits and one earned run, but the damage had already been done.
Early Offensive Surge
Detroit’s offense exploded in the first inning to set the tone. With Keith singling to center field, McGonigle scored the first run of the game. Keith advanced to third base before Torkelson launched a 415-foot home run to left-center field, driving in three runs and making the score 4-0. This early barrage put immediate pressure on the Angels' pitching staff.
The Tigers added to their lead in the second inning. Keith hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Outman and advancing Dingler to second. Later in the same inning, Greene hit another sacrifice fly to center, bringing McGonigle home and moving Dingler to third. These two runs extended the Tigers' advantage to 6-0 before the middle innings.
