Late Surge Secures Victory
Houston Astros rallied in the final frame to defeat the Los Angeles Angels 6-4 on Tuesday. The victory improved Houston’s record to 53-55, while the Angels fell to 42-65. The game was played at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, before a crowd of 30,121.
Early Angels Lead
Los Angeles established control early, scoring in consecutive innings against Houston’s starting pitcher, Cristian Javier. In the first inning, Neto scored on a sacrifice fly by Schanuel, followed by Trout crossing the plate on a single by Grissom. The Angels extended their advantage in the third inning.
Grissom launched a 395-foot home run to left center, and Adell drove in Lowe with a double to right field, making the score 4-0.
Houston responded in the fourth inning when Trammell homered to center field, a 412-foot shot that cut the deficit to 4-1. The Astros continued to chip away in the eighth inning. Alvarez singled to left, allowing Peña to score and bring the total to 4-2.
Ninth-Inning Breakthrough
The game shifted dramatically in the bottom of the ninth inning. Spence reached base and scored on a fielding error by Angels second baseman Grissom, narrowing the gap to 4-3. Paredes then came to the plate and was hit by a pitch, which allowed Spence to score from second base. The Angels challenged the call, but it was upheld, tying the game at 4-4.
Houston took the lead shortly after. Wade Jr. walked, driving in Peña to make it 5-4, despite another Angels challenge that was also upheld. The final run came when Alvarez scored on a fielding error by Angels pitcher Sam Bachman, who allowed Altuve to reach first. This sequence secured the 6-4 win for Houston.
Pitching Performances
Cristian Javier earned the win for Houston, pitching five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. He was supported by Josh Hader, who recorded his 13th save with a perfect inning. Tatsuya Imai and AJ Blubaugh provided relief, with Imai allowing two earned runs in 0.2 innings and Blubaugh giving up one earned run over 2.1 innings.
For the Angels, Walbert Urena pitched six innings, allowing one earned run and five strikeouts. Chase Silseth and Ryan Zeferjahn each pitched an inning, with both recording the hold. Jose Fermin took the loss after allowing an earned run in 0.1 of an inning. Sam Bachman finished the game, allowing no earned runs but walking two batters in his final 0.2 innings.
