Muncy and Edman Lead Dodgers Charge
Max Muncy provided the critical momentum shift with a sixth-inning home run, while Edman delivered a decisive three-run triple in the eighth inning to help the Los Angeles Dodgers secure a 9-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. The victory improved the Dodgers' record to 65-38, while the Phillies fell to 56-47.
The Phillies jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when Bohm homered 411 feet to left field, bringing Schwarber home. Los Angeles answered in the third when Rushing hit a 438-foot home run to center, narrowing the gap to 2-1.
The Dodgers took the lead in the fifth inning. Rushing doubled to right field, allowing Edman and T. Hernández to score, putting Los Angeles ahead 3-2. However, De La Cruz tied the game at 3-3 later in the frame with a 404-foot home run to center field.
Muncy's Go-Ahead Homer
The turning point came in the sixth inning. Muncy launched a 415-foot home run to center field, driving in Freeman to give the Dodgers a 5-3 advantage. Eric Lauer earned the win, pitching 5.1 innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs while striking out five. He improved his record to 5-5.
Dodgers Extend Lead in Eighth
Los Angeles broke the game open in the eighth inning. Tucker hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Pages, making it 6-3. Edman then tripled to center field, allowing Freeman, Betts, and T. Hernández to cross the plate, extending the lead to 9-3.
The Phillies managed to score two runs in the eighth, with Bohm singling to right to bring Turner home, making the score 9-4. Realmuto added an insurance run for Philadelphia in the ninth, singling to left to score Marsh, resulting in a final score of 9-5.
Pitching Performances
Aaron Nola took the loss for Philadelphia, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing seven hits and five earned runs. He fell to 3-8 on the season. Seth Johnson and Tim Mayza also pitched for the Phillies, with Mayza allowing two earned runs in 1.1 innings. Orion Kerkering and Alex McFarlane closed out the game for Philadelphia.
For the Dodgers, Brock Stewart pitched 0.2 scoreless innings for his fourth save, and Jack Dreyer added a scoreless frame for his fifth save. Will Klein and Edgardo Henriquez pitched in relief, with Henriquez striking out two batters. The game was played at Citizens Bank Park in front of 40,675 fans.
