Crow-Armstrong sets the pace
Crow-Armstrong homered twice and drove in four runs on three scoring plays, leading the Chicago Cubs past the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-6 Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.
Los Angeles struck first in the top of the first inning when Ohtani homered to right center, a 376-foot drive that made it 1-0. Chicago answered in the bottom half on Crow-Armstrong's 420-foot homer to center, tying the game at 1.
Cubs build a six-run lead
Chicago moved ahead in the second. Swanson doubled to left, scoring Hoerner, and Crow-Armstrong followed with a double to right that brought in Swanson for a 3-1 Cubs lead.
The margin grew in the fourth. Crow-Armstrong hit a 405-foot homer to right, with Taylor scoring on the play, and Bregman singled to left to score Suzuki, pushing Chicago's lead to 6-1. The Cubs added their final run in the seventh when Hoerner doubled to left and Busch scored. Los Angeles challenged the play, and the call on the field was upheld.
Dodgers surge in the eighth
The Dodgers cut the deficit with two home runs in the eighth. Muncy hit a 413-foot homer to right center, scoring Tucker and Betts, to make it 7-4. Ohtani then hit a 367-foot homer to left center, scoring Rojas and trimming Chicago's lead to 7-6. The game had exactly five home runs: two by Crow-Armstrong, two by Ohtani and one by Muncy.
Pitching and records
Shota Imanaga earned the win for Chicago, allowing eight hits and one earned run with no walks and six strikeouts over 5.0 innings. Tyler Ferguson pitched 2.0 innings, giving up one hit and no earned runs with no walks and three strikeouts. Caleb Thielbar allowed four hits and four earned runs in 0.1 innings, Ryan Zeferjahn allowed one hit and one earned run in 0.2 innings and earned his 11th hold, and Jacob Webb earned his sixth save with 1.0 inning, no hits, no earned runs, no walks and no strikeouts.
Eric Lauer took the loss for Los Angeles, allowing 11 hits and six earned runs with no walks and one strikeout over 4.0 innings. Attendance was 38,691. The Cubs are 66-49, and the Dodgers are 69-46.
