Saggese powers late surge
Austin Saggese provided the spark for the St. Louis Cardinals, who defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-6 in a dramatic contest at Dodger Stadium. The away team overcame an early deficit to secure the win, with Saggese driving in three runs in the final two innings to seal the result.
The Cardinals finished the day with a 70-70 record, while the host Dodgers fell to 82-57.
Early lead shifts
The Dodgers opened the scoring quickly in the first inning. Freddie Freeman connected on a home run to center field, sending two teammates home to give Los Angeles a 3-0 lead. Cardinals claw back
St. Louis began to close the gap in the seventh inning. Jordan Walker and another runner crossed the plate on a home run by the Cardinals, narrowing the margin to 5-4. The game remained tight as the innings progressed, with both teams exchanging runs.
In the eighth, a sacrifice fly by the Cardinals brought home a run, tying the score at 5-5 and setting the stage for a decisive extra-inning finish.
