Opening-night loss
The Los Angeles Kings began their 2026–27 NHL season with an 8–4 loss to the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena in Denver on Wednesday, September 30.
Nathan MacKinnon and Artturi Lehkonen each scored twice for Colorado. Brock Nelson added a goal and two assists.
Nelson opened the scoring for the Avalanche. Brian Dumoulin then scored Los Angeles’ first goal of the season to tie the game 1–1.
Colorado finished the first period ahead 2–1 and the second ahead 6–3. The Avalanche added two more goals in the third to complete the win.
