The Scottish Highland Gathering & Games turn 160 this year, and the milestone edition lands where it always does: the Alameda County Fairgrounds, over the weekend of Sept. 5-6.
Run by the Caledonian Club of San Francisco since 1866, the games are California's largest and oldest Scottish gathering, spanning highland dancing, live falconry, the caber toss and the Kilted Mile race, as reported by Patch.
What the 160th brings
The anniversary year carries real athletic weight: the 2026 Men's Scottish Heavy Athletics World Championships and the 50th annual U.S. Invitational Heavy Athletic Championships both come to the fairgrounds, featuring caber tossing, hammer throwing and stone putting.
And for a certain generation of television viewers, one guest stands out. Adrian Paul, who played the immortal Duncan MacLeod in "Highlander: The Series," joins the games' living-history reenactors and will lead Sword Experience classes in sword handling and combat technique.
