Pleasanton law enforcement is investigating a large-scale commercial burglary incident that occurred before dawn on Thursday, September 10. The wave of break-ins affected at least 18 businesses across the city, leaving numerous storefronts with shattered glass and prompting an active search for the individuals responsible.
The scope of the event stood out against the city’s typical crime statistics. According to police data cited by Patch, there had been only 18 commercial burglaries reported in Pleasanton during the entire year prior to this single night. By later that day, NBC Bay Area updated the count to at least 20 targeted establishments.
The affected locations included six restaurants at Pacific Pearl, several businesses within the Val Vista Shopping Center, and four properties near Santa Rita Road. The latter group comprised two restaurants, a nail salon, and Perry’s Liquors.
Witnesses provided critical details about the suspects’ actions. An NBC Bay Area photographer observed individuals dressed in black smashing glass doors around 4:30 a.m. before departing in a silver vehicle. Police responded to an alarm on Stoneridge Drive at approximately 4 a.m. and discovered multiple damaged storefronts.
At 4:35 a.m., officers received another report from Mission Plaza on Valley Avenue. Police stated they saw four people wearing hooded sweatshards breaking windows and removing a cash register from one business. Officers located the suspects’ sedan, which was missing license plates, and initiated a pursuit along eastbound Stanley Boulevard.
The chase ended west of Highway 84 due to safety concerns. No arrests had been made as of Thursday afternoon.
