Pleasanton, California, has been named one of the cleanest cities in the United States, according to a 2025 ranking by lawn care service Lawnstarter. The study evaluated the 500 largest U.S. municipalities, ultimately ranking 303 cities based on pollution levels, waste infrastructure, living conditions, and resident satisfaction.

The report highlights Pleasanton alongside other locations like South Bend, Indiana, and Wilmington, North Carolina, as having strong environmental metrics. These top-rated areas demonstrated high marks for air and water quality, low excess fuel consumption, and residents who reported high satisfaction with their local environment.

Conversely, the study identified San Bernardino, California, as the dirtiest city, citing high pollution dissatisfaction and poor air quality. Los Angeles and Detroit followed at second and third place, respectively, due to traffic congestion and industrial factors. Reading, Pennsylvania, and Ontario, California, rounded out the bottom five.
