IKEA opened its fifth Bay Area site on Johnson Drive in Pleasanton last Wednesday. The 2,100-square-foot facility operates as a Plan and Order Point with Pick-Up, differing significantly from standard big-box stores. Visitors meet with staff to design and order home furnishings for kitchens, bedrooms, or bathrooms. After planning, customers can arrange for home delivery or collect items at the store. The location also serves as a pickup point for materials ordered online.

The Pleasanton site does not include a cafeteria or play area, unlike other IKEA locations. A similar concept store operates in Colma. Full-service stores remain available in Emeryville, Palo Alto, and San Francisco.

The grand opening featured live music, Swedish food, and giveaways. The store is located at 5755 Johnson Drive and operates daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. IKEA Emeryville Market Manager Arda Akalin stated the location brings design solutions to the Tri-Valley community for customers seeking affordable home furnishings.
