The Pleasanton Police Department reported that at least 18 local businesses were burglarized in the early hours of Thursday. Many of the affected establishments had their front windows broken. As of Thursday afternoon, the department had not reported any arrests.
The incident began when officers responded to a burglary alarm at 4 a.m. in the 2700 block of Stoneridge Drive. Upon arrival, they found multiple businesses with damaged front windows. Shortly after, at 4:35 a.m., dispatch received reports of a commercial burglary in progress at several locations in Mission Plaza on the 4300 block of Valley Avenue.
Witnesses described four individuals wearing hooded sweatshirts smashing glass windows. The group was seen leaving one business with a cash register before entering a sedan that had no license plates. Officers located the vehicle and believed all suspects were inside.
A pursuit followed to eastbound Stanley Boulevard but was terminated west of Highway 84 due to safety concerns. Surrounding law enforcement agencies were notified of the situation.
Throughout the morning, officers identified at least 18 businesses that had been targeted, the majority of which were restaurants. According to NBC Bay Area, six restaurants at Pacific Pearl and four businesses near Santa Rita Road were among those affected. The latter group included two restaurants, a nail salon, and Perry’s Liquors.
Pleasanton police stated that 18 commercial burglaries had been reported to them earlier this year, prior to September 10. The department noted that similar early morning smash-and-grab incidents occurred in Danville on September 1 and in San Ramon on August 4.
