A small dog that had been missing for several weeks was rescued while swimming in the San Francisco Bay near East Palo Alto. The dog disappeared over the Fourth of July weekend, and a 911 call on July 16 reported its sighting entering the bay near the Dumbarton Bridge.
Firefighters from the Menlo Park Fire Protection District responded by deploying at least two trucks, a boat, and an airboat. They initially spotted the dog using binoculars from the shore and later utilized a drone to assist in the rescue operation. Footage of the rescue was shared on social media, showing the dog being toweled off by firefighters after being pulled from the water.
Additional video released by the East Palo Alto Police Department captured the dog swimming while being followed by seagulls, approximately half a mile from the shore. After the rescue, the dog was taken to the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), which helped reunite it with its family.
The Menlo Park Fire Protection District confirmed the reunion on their Instagram account, stating, "Dog and family have been reunited."
