Pleasanton residents with a backyard olive tree can turn a small harvest into a share of locally milled oil at Olivina’s community milling day on Sunday, Nov. 8.

The event takes place at 4555 Arroyo Road in Livermore. Olivina combines olives from smaller growers into a larger batch, then distributes oil in proportion to their contribution. Participants do not need to supply the 1,000 pounds required for a separate custom-milling batch.

The mill’s instructions list olive drop-off from 8 to 11 a.m. Growers should bring a completed milling agreement and clean, sealable containers for their oil. Fruit must be in suitable condition, without olive-fly damage or debris that could damage the equipment. Only staff may remain on site during milling.

Olivina says oil pickup is Monday. Its page lists conflicting evening pickup times, so growers should confirm their collection time directly with the mill. Its community-milling page has preparation details and the agreement; growers should check those instructions before harvesting.

For residents who prefer to buy a bottle, Olivina also lists a booth at the Pleasanton Farmers’ Market on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Angela Street between First and Main streets.
