A Dublin resident was fatally shot in the parking lot of Dublin Sports Grounds on Saturday afternoon, and his elderly parents-in-law have been taken into custody on suspicion of murder. The Pleasanton Weekly reported the case update on Sunday.
Dublin Police Services identified the victim as 40-year-old Jonathan McKinsey. Captain Miguel Campos stated that McKinsey sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. No motive for the shooting has been released to the public.
The incident began around 3:08 p.m. on Sept. 26, when a Dublin Police sergeant driving near 6700 Dublin Blvd. observed a man lying in the parking lot. The officer stopped to investigate as dispatch centers started receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting at the facility.
Dublin Sports Grounds is located adjacent to Interstate 580, near the Interstate 680 interchange. At the time of the shooting, the complex was hosting youth athletic events, including soccer and flag football games.
First responders, including paramedics and other police personnel, arrived at the scene. According to Campos, officers quickly located two suspects who remained nearby with assistance from witnesses. The suspects were detained shortly after the incident.
