A Pleasanton resident was taken into custody following a wave of commercial break-ins that struck the city on Sept. 10, according to the Pleasanton Police Department.
Authorities identified the suspect as Juan Luis Valdez-Luevano, 19. Police stated they believe he and other individuals were responsible for the burglaries in Pleasanton as well as incidents in multiple cities across three counties. While similar burglary sprees occurred in San Ramon and Danville, officials did not confirm whether Valdez-Luevano participated in those specific events.
The Sept. 10 incident involved at least 25 businesses in Pleasanton, a number that exceeded the total for all of 2026 prior to that morning. Witnesses reported seeing four people wearing hooded sweatshards smash front glass windows. One business was left with its cash register intact. The suspects fled in an unlicensed sedan.
A vehicle chase followed down Stanley Boulevard but ended west of Highway 84 due to safety concerns. On Sept. 16, Pleasanton officers coordinated with neighboring agencies to execute a search warrant at Valdez-Luevano’s home on Vineyard Avenue. Simultaneously, detectives from the San Ramon Police Department and Dublin Police Services located him in Dublin and arrested him based on an arrest warrant from Contra Costa County.
Valdez-Luevano was booked in Contra Costa County on multiple burglary charges. He is expected to be transferred to Alameda County, where additional charges related to the Sept. 10 burglaries are being pursued.
