Pleasanton police reported that at least 18 businesses were targeted in a series of break-ins early Thursday morning. The incidents primarily affected restaurants located within several shopping centers across the city. Authorities stated that at least four individuals were involved in the spree, which involved smashing windows to gain entry before quickly fleeing the scene with cash and other items.
The damage was concentrated in specific commercial areas. At Mission Plaza, at least five establishments suffered broken glass, including one business that was preparing for a grand opening the following week. Carol Rhen, the owner of TP Tea, stated that thieves entered her shop and took cash.
"I hope the police can catch them," Rhen said. "Because they are bad guys. They should be in the jail and not society."
At Pacific Pearl, at least six additional businesses were found with shattered windows. Surveillance footage from a nearby sushi restaurant captured a suspect removing an entire cash register from the premises. Another restaurant owner, who requested anonymity, reported that at least $500 in cash was stolen from her location.
"Not just us. I already talked to the other owners of the restaurants of the places next to us, they say they feel scared," the owner said. "We don't know how we will keep the business going on."
The Thursday incidents occurred less than a week after similar break-ins in nearby Danville. Surveillance video from Dulce Beauté in Danville showed an individual entering the salon, where workers believe at least a dozen local businesses were affected. However, the thieves did not take cash from the salon.
Connie Palomino noted that only snacks were stolen. "They only stole the snacks! It was crazy," Palomino said.
