Pleasanton is asking single-family sewer customers to pay $25.50 more every two months for the city's collection service under a proposal heading to a Nov. 17 public hearing.
The proposed city charge would rise from $31.53 to $57.03 per bimonthly bill on Jan. 1, 2027, if approved. The change equals $12.75 a month. It is the local collection charge, not the entire sewer bill: regional wastewater-treatment charges also apply.
The city's September public-hearing notice identifies about $55 million in critical sewer infrastructure work over the next four years. Pleasanton says earlier inflation-based adjustments did not cover the long-term needs of aging pipes and other assets.
The proposal follows the city's first comprehensive sewer rate study. Its current project page says the council selected a funding approach that prioritizes urgent infrastructure work and stages other improvements over time. Sewer revenue is held in a dedicated enterprise fund for sewer services and projects.
The rate structure would also change. The city proposes combining condominium and multifamily customers into one category, with a $39.51 bimonthly collection charge in the first year. Current charges are $21.65 for condominiums and $16.49 for multifamily customers. Treatment charges remain additional.
