Machado’s Triple Threat Powers Padres to 10-7 Win Over D-backs

Fernando Machado provided the decisive blow for the San Diego Padres on Sunday, driving in three runs with a three-run home run to right field in the fourth inning. The 351-foot shot helped propel the home team to a 10-7 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The win improved the Padres’ record to 90-71, while the Diamondbacks fell to 86-75 in front of a crowd of 44,698 at Petco Park.

Game Flow

The Diamondbacks took an early lead in the first inning, but the Padres responded quickly. In the second inning, Arizona’s Perdomo scored on a pickoff error by catcher Salas, tying the game at 1-1. The momentum shifted in the third inning as the Padres built a 3-1 lead, with Merrill and Harris contributing to the offensive surge.

The fourth inning proved to be the turning point. After McCann homered to center field, Machado connected with a three-run shot that scored Salas and Tatis Jr., extending the Padres’ lead to 6-4. Arizona trimmed the deficit in the fifth inning with a home run by Bogaerts, but the Padres maintained control.

Closing the Door

In the sixth inning, Cronenworth singled to center field, scoring France and Merrill to make it 10-4. The Diamondbacks managed to score three runs in the ninth inning, with Perdomo, Nootbaar, and Marte all crossing the plate to narrow the gap to 10-7. However, that was the end of the scoring.

Pitching Performance

Yuki Matsui earned the win for the Padres, pitching one-third of an inning without allowing a hit or a run. Bradgley Rodriguez recorded his 17th hold, pitching two innings with one hit, one walk, and two strikeouts. For Arizona, Jose Cabrera took the loss, pitching one-and-a-third innings while allowing five hits and five earned runs.

The Padres’ bullpen, including David Morgan and Adrian Morejon, combined to limit further damage in the late innings.
