Rodriguez gives San Diego a lift
Bradgley Rodriguez gave the San Diego Padres two scoreless, hitless innings without a walk and earned the win Friday, August 7, 2026, in a 5-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field in Phoenix.
Rodriguez struck out one and improved to 3-2. He was part of a San Diego pitching group that limited Arizona to one run in the final score. Walker Buehler went four innings for the Padres, allowing six hits, one earned run and one walk with three strikeouts.
Padres build the early lead
San Diego went ahead in the first inning. Machado grounded into a double play, shortstop to second to first, and Tatis Jr. scored on the play while Rengifo was out at second for a 1-0 Padres lead.
The Padres added two runs in the third. Machado grounded out to shortstop, bringing in Cronenworth and moving Rengifo to second and Tatis Jr. to third. France followed with a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Tatis Jr. and sending Rengifo to third for a 3-0 lead.
Arizona answered in the bottom of the third. Moreno singled to right and Carroll scored, cutting San Diego’s lead to 3-1. That was the Diamondbacks’ only run of the game.
