Machado Ignites the Offense
Manny Machado provided the spark for the San Diego Padres in their 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday. The away team took the lead in the fourth inning when Machado homered to center field for a distance of 409 feet, driving in Harris.
This two-run shot set the tone for a dominant Padres offensive performance that ultimately overwhelmed the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.
Scoring Sequence
The Padres extended their lead in the fifth inning. Harris grounded into a fielder's choice to the pitcher, resulting in a throwing error by Yoshinobu Yamamoto that allowed Salas to score. Shortly after, Machado hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Tatis Jr. and making the score 4-1.
In the ninth inning, Fermin singled to left field to bring in Taylor, capping the Padres' scoring with the fifth run of the game. The Dodgers managed only one run, scored by T. Hernández on a sacrifice fly by Edman in the fourth inning.
Pitching Performance
Yoshinobu Yamamoto took the loss for the Dodgers, pitching six innings while allowing five hits and two earned runs. He also issued one walk and struck out four batters. The Padres' starting pitcher, Robbie Ray, pitched three and one-third innings, allowing seven hits and one earned run. He walked one batter and struck out two.
Bullpen Contributions
The Padres' bullpen secured the save. David Morgan pitched two-thirds of an inning without allowing a hit or an earned run, walking one batter and striking out one. Yuki Matsui pitched one inning, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out no one.
Bradgley Rodriguez earned the win, pitching two innings while allowing one hit and one walk, striking out three batters. Adrian Morejon pitched one inning, allowing one hit and no walks, with no strikeouts. Mason Miller closed the game, pitching one inning without allowing a hit or an earned run, walking one batter and striking out two.
For the Dodgers, Kris Bubic pitched one inning, allowing one hit and no earned runs. Jack Dreyer pitched one and one-third innings, allowing no hits or earned runs and striking out one.
