Bratt strikes out 9 as Diamondbacks beat Padres 10-4

Mitch Bratt allowed one hit over seven scoreless innings and struck out nine as Arizona beat San Diego 10-4 at Chase Field.

Bratt sets tone

Mitch Bratt gave Arizona seven scoreless innings, allowing one hit and three walks while striking out nine, as the Diamondbacks beat the San Diego Padres 10-4 Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, at Chase Field.

Bratt earned the win to move to 1-1. His line helped Arizona carry a 10-0 lead into the ninth before San Diego scored its four runs.

Arizona breaks through

The Diamondbacks took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Moreno hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Carroll. Tawa followed with a home run to left center, measured at 414 feet, for a 2-0 lead.

Arizona added six runs in the bottom of the fourth. Nootbaar singled to right, scoring Locklear and moving Waldschmidt to third. Carroll singled to right to score Waldschmidt, and Moreno walked, bringing in Nootbaar while Perdomo moved to second and Carroll to third.

Tawa then hit a sacrifice fly to right that scored Carroll and moved Perdomo to third. Vargas doubled to center, scoring Moreno and Perdomo, to make it 8-0.

Vargas adds on, Padres answer

In the bottom of the eighth, Vargas tripled to right, scoring Barrosa and Tawa, and Arizona led 10-0.

San Diego got on the board in the top of the ninth when Tatis Jr. homered to center, a 465-foot drive. Workman later doubled to left, scoring Merrill, Song and France. That double accounted for the Padres’ final three runs and set the final score at 10-4. The game’s two home runs were Tawa’s drive in the third and Tatis Jr.’s homer in the ninth.

Pitching and records

Casey Mize took the loss for San Diego, falling to 4-7 after allowing nine hits and eight earned runs over 3.1 innings. He walked three and struck out one. Kyle Hart pitched 2.2 innings, allowing two hits, no earned runs and one walk with three strikeouts.

Wandy Peralta pitched one inning, allowing one hit with no walks and one strikeout. Griffin Canning pitched one inning, allowing three hits and two earned runs with two strikeouts.

For Arizona, Taylor Clarke pitched one inning with no hits, no walks and one strikeout. Kevin Ginkel allowed two hits, four earned runs and two walks in 0.2 innings. Paul Sewald got one out without allowing a hit or walk. The Diamondbacks are 61-54, and the Padres are 59-56.
