Power Hitting Drives Royals Past Padres
Salvador Perez and Lane Thomas provided the offensive spark that propelled the Kansas City Royals to a 6-1 victory over the San Diego Padres at Kauffman Stadium on Saturday. Both players contributed two-run home runs, helping Kansas City secure the win in front of 23,347 fans.
Early Padres Lead Short-Lived
The Padres struck first, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Lane Thomas homered to left center, measuring 421 feet, to score Jensen and give Kansas City the early advantage. The Padres responded in the third inning when Fernando Tatis Jr. launched a 411-foot home run to left center, making the score 1-2.
Shortly after, Jake Cronenworth doubled to left field, allowing Jensen to score and extend San Diego’s lead to 1-3.
The Padres added another run in the fourth inning when Michael Collins singled to center field, driving in Massey to make it 1-4. However, the Royals began their comeback in the sixth inning. Perez homered to center field, a 438-foot shot that scored Vinnie Pasquantino, cutting the deficit to 2-4.
The Royals then rallied to take the lead, with Thomas hitting a two-run home run to help secure the 6-4 advantage before the final score was reached.
