Ashby secures the clincher

Aaron Ashby held San Diego hitless through the middle innings as the Milwaukee Brewers eliminated the San Diego Padres in the National League Division Series. The Brewers won Game 4 by a score of 3-1, taking the series 3-1 to advance. Ashby pitched three scoreless innings, allowing no hits while walking two batters and striking out three. He was credited with the win, improving his record to 1-0. This victory decided the series, sending Milwaukee on to the next round while San Diego is eliminated.

Scoring unfolds

In the top of the third inning, the Brewers took the lead. Mitchell singled to center, allowing Frelick to score. The Padres responded in the bottom of the third when Tatis Jr. hit a home run to center, a blast that traveled 429 feet. This was the only home run of the game. The Brewers regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning when Chourio singled to center, scoring Mitchell. In the top of the sixth inning, Frelick hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Bauers to score and make it 3-1.

Robert Gasser started for the Brewers, pitching four innings. He allowed three hits and one earned run, walked one batter, and struck out three. The Padres' starter, Walker Buehler, pitched three innings, allowing three hits and one earned run while walking two batters. He did not record a strikeout. Robbie Ray took the loss for San Diego, pitching one inning and allowing one hit, one earned run, and one walk. The Padres used six relievers after Buehler, while the Brewers used three after Gasser. Abner Uribe and Trevor Megill finished the game for Milwaukee, with Megill earning the save. The game was played at Petco Park in San Diego, California, with an attendance of 47,712. Milwaukee went 103-59 in the regular season; San Diego went 91-71.
