First-Half Momentum Shifts
The 49ers struck first in the opening period when Purdy found Mike Evans on a two-yard pass, which was lateraled to Deebo Samuel for an 80-yard touchdown run, giving San Francisco an early 7-0 lead. The home team extended their advantage in the second quarter with a 23-yard pass from Purdy to Evans, making it 14-0.
The Cardinals responded with a pair of field goals by Chad Ryland, a 26-yarder and a 41-yarder, to trim the deficit to 14-6. Purdy added a 57-yard field goal by Eddy Pineiro to close out the half, leaving the 49ers up 17-6.
