Pitching Dominance from the Start
Robbie Ray earned his seventh consecutive decision, improving to 10-6 on the season, as the San Francisco Giants defeated the San Diego Padres 4-1 at Petco Park on Friday. Ray delivered a efficient outing, working six innings and allowing just one earned run on four hits while striking out six batters. He walked only one batter in his time on the mound.
The victory was supported by a bullpen trio that kept the Padres' offense quiet for the final three innings. Caleb Kilian pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout, followed by Dylan Smith who recorded two strikeouts over 1.0 inning without allowing a hit or walk.
Erik Miller closed out the game with a scoreless frame and secured the save, his fourth of the year, by retiring the side in order.
Offensive Highlights in Early Innings
The Giants built their lead early against Padres starter JP Sears, who took the loss, dropping his record to 3-4. The offense exploded in the second inning when Susac launched a 406-foot home run to left field, driving in Adames for a 2-0 advantage. Prior to that, Devers had scored in the first inning on a sacrifice fly to right by Ramos, making it 1-0.
The Padres managed to get on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Bogaerts singled to center field, allowing France to cross the plate and cut the deficit to 3-1. However, San Francisco regained momentum in the fifth inning. Susac hit another sacrifice fly, this time to center field, bringing Devers home to extend the lead to 4-1.
