Lofty Moment in the Ninth

Alexis Loftin’s bunt single in the bottom of the ninth inning provided the decisive run, lifting the Kansas City Royals to a 4-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Monday. The play scored Juan Rojas, giving Kansas City the lead that held until the final out.

Loftin reached first base safely on the bunt single to first, with Rojas crossing the plate and Tolbert advancing to second base.

Offensive Surge in the Fourth

The Royals’ offense exploded in the fourth inning, outscoring San Francisco by three runs to take control of the game. Salvador Perez homered to center field, measuring 440 feet, which drove in Nick Pasquantino for a two-run blow. Prior to that, Salvador Ramos launched a 430-foot home run to right-center field, giving Kansas City an early 1-0 advantage.

The inning continued with Jake Collins singling to right field, allowing Michael Massey to score and extend the lead to 3-1.

Giants Fight Back

San Francisco attempted a rally in the ninth inning. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. homered to right-center field, 380 feet, scoring Jake McGee to tie the game at 3-3. However, the Giants could not complete the comeback.

The Royals’ bullpen held firm after giving up the tying home run, with Alex Lange taking the win despite allowing two earned runs and two hits in his one inning of work.

Pitching Performances

Michael Wacha was the standout starter for Kansas City, pitching six innings and allowing just one earned run on three hits while striking out five batters. He received support from Steven Cruz and Daniel Lynch IV, who combined to pitch two scoreless innings. Cruz earned his second save, and Lynch recorded his elest save of the season.

For San Francisco, Trevor McDonald took the loss after pitching four innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. JT Brubaker and Dylan Smith contributed two and two-thirds scoreless innings, respectively. Jason Foley closed out the final frame without allowing a hit or run, but the effort was not enough to prevent the defeat.

The game was played at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, with an attendance of 16,411. The victory improved the Royals’ record to 41-60, while the Giants fell to 42-58.
