Sharks win in overtime

The San Jose Sharks opened their 2026–27 regular season with a 4–3 overtime victory over the Florida Panthers on Thursday, October 1, at SAP Center. Luca Cagnoni scored his first NHL goal at 3:14 of overtime, finishing a pass from Will Smith.

Mason Marchment put San Jose ahead in the first period. Smith then scored short-handed and on the power play in the second, helping the Sharks establish a 3–0 lead.

Eetu Luostarinen answered twice for Florida. Matthew Tkachuk tied the game at 5:18 of the third period, 17 seconds after Luostarinen’s second goal.

Smith finished with two goals and an assist, while Macklin Celebrini recorded three assists. Yaroslav Askarov made 23 saves for San Jose. The Sharks moved to 1–0–0; Florida moved to 1–0–1, earning a point for the overtime loss.
