General manager John Lynch said Black and Jordan James are expected to contribute alongside McCaffrey during the season. James did not receive the same opportunities in the opening game, while Black earned playing time through his work in training camp, including his assignments and pass protection.
Lynch said the team wants to divide carries when possible to help keep players healthy during individual games and over the course of the season. He also said McCaffrey could receive a workload similar to last year's total in some games, depending on how each contest develops.
Black's production influenced the Week 1 distribution, while Lynch said McCaffrey performed well with the chances he received. He described the 49ers' rushing attack as an important part of their victory.
