San Francisco 49ers rookie Carver Willis is reportedly making a strong push to secure a starting position for the upcoming season. Head coach Kyle Shanahan acknowledged Willis's performance during the preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders, where the 49ers won 18-12 at Allegiant Stadium.

Willis, a fourth-round draft pick, played left guard in the first half of the game and demonstrated his skills as both a pass protector and a run blocker. Shanahan stated, "I think he is making a push (to start). Some (positions) are undecided yet," indicating that the final decisions regarding the lineup will be made soon.

With injuries affecting other players such as Robert Jones, Brett Toth, and Austen Pleasants, Willis has an opportunity to solidify his role on the team. Shanahan noted that Willis's transition from offensive tackle in college to left guard has been challenging, but praised his work ethic and development.

The 49ers are set to face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1, and further evaluations will determine whether Willis will be part of the starting lineup. Shanahan emphasized the importance of continued performance in practice as the team finalizes its roster decisions.

The 49ers' coaching staff will likely make their final roster decisions by Monday, as they prepare for the upcoming game against the Rams.
